Pewdiepie Stream Asset

Originally I created this short looping style animation for fun and to share it on Pewdiepie’s subreddit thread.

The animation I made blew up on his subreddit gaining over 32,000 upvotes (likes) and even shown in one of Pewdiepie’s YouTube videos, which received over 5.6 million views.

Felix (Pewdiepie) has also requested to use the animation for his online streams as a ”Stream starting soon” and “Be right back” transition.

I did not charge for the work as it was a personal project, however I definitely should have put my watermark on the video.

I created a 4k desktop wallpaper and a phone wallpaper with the design and made the files freely available on my post on his subreddit.

Process

This is Felix’s YouTube channel branding/pattern.

I took his background pattern into Photoshop and made it a tile-able image. It looks a bit strange here, but without joining the black lines together there would be visible seams when applying the texture to a 3D object.

I then created a bump and a normal map out of the new tile-able background I created. This gave the pattern some depth and nice reflections.

Using reference imagery, I pen tooled his logo in Photoshop and exported it into Cinema 4D.

I then used his logo to cutout shapes into the cuboid and used a formula deformer “Sin((z+t)*1.0*PI/1)*.5/1.3” to apply a satisfying wave like motion. I applied this motion to the non cutout logos but offset it slightly.
