Full Moon Party 2023

Koh Phangan

I was unsure whether to attend this infamous party as the longer I spent in Thailand, I realised I had very little desire to get wasted on buckets of thai rum. So instead I opted not to drink and to instead, just photograph the people, the environment and dance my sober little feet off.

This party is a big metaphor for levels of awareness in people. On one end of the beach you had a high concentration of early 20’s English lads and ladettes, dancing away to the top 100, dual wielding buckets which only moments later are tossed to the ground to be digested by the sea.

However on the very opposite end, away from all the gasoline soaked skip ropes and crisp white Moschino t-shirts. There was one stage playing surprisingly great techno and psytrance music, which attracted surprisingly great people. Felt like an oasis from the purgatory that is the Full Moon Party. With no litter or anxiety about stepping in glass I gladly jumped around for 10 hours. Maybe this is what is was like “in the good old days”..?
