Road Trip Down Under
My friend Rory had been planning a road trip along Australia for a while. It had just worked out that I was close enough and in need of a plan, so I was able to join him as a passenger princess on this escapade down under.
Coming from 4 months in Asia straight to this westernised land was more of a culture shock than my entire time so far. It felt like some parallel English world where the weather was better and the people spoke a little funny.

Journey’s start

We had a 3am start to catch the ferry from Tasmania to Melbourne. We weren’t quite ready to give it all up just yet, so after a messy night in Melbourne, we headed towards the great ocean road.

Exmouth Total Solar Eclipse 2023
I couldn’t quite believe that we happened to be in Exmouth for this very location specific eclipse. I had always wanted to see a total eclipse and boy was I not disappointed. It was quite terrifying experiencing it, the sky went dark, cold and quiet. With the only source of light being some kind of eye of Sauron. Definitely a (atleast) once in a life time kinda thing. I knew I had to capture this with my camera so I spent a few days planning the location and creating make shift a solar lens out of a pair of solar glasses.
I ended up capturing this composite image above the famous lighthouse in Exmouth. I was so happy with the result and clearly other people were too as I had sold over 20 copies as prints on an Exmouth Facebook group. Nice to have some extra money as Australia is FUCKING EXPENSIVE.

Big love Rory for the experience. Was a pleasure sleeping in a roof tent for 6 weeks with you :)
